Hi Mom and Dad, Bye Mom and Dad

In early November my Mom and Dad came for an overdue visit. It was so wonderful to have them here. At least that's what Micah and Sam would say. Ryan and I left for a getaway to Boston only a few hours after my parents arrived. They were so great to fly out and watch the boys while Ryan and I took our own mini-vacation.

The reason for our trip to Boston was to celebrate our 7 year Anniversary. We used rewards points to pay for our train ride to Boston and for our hotel. We saved so much money by using points. There is no reason to travel any other way! We left on a Thursday night, the plan was to ride the train all night long and then arrive in Boston in the morning. Things went according to plans but Ryan and I had not realized how hard it was to get some sleep on a train. We were pretty tired when we arrived. We first went to drop our bags off at our hotel. From there we caught a water taxi to get the other side of Boston harbor. The next task was to find breakfast. It was really hard to find a vegan friendly breakfast spot. Finally we decided to settle for a bagel and OJ so we could start exploring.
We took a tour of the city and learned so much about the revolution. I loved every minute of it. We kept ourselves busy touring the city the hole day. Took a break to eat at the "world's best Sandwich Shop"  then headed to The Hyatt Harborside to officially check into our hotel. Our hotel room had an amazing view of the Boston Harbor. I can't get over how pretty it was.

That night we met up with old friends Aaron and Elena in Harvard Square. We knew them when we were living in DC at the Barlow Center during the Washington Seminar in 20007. Anyway we had dinner together and had a really nice time catching up. Next we went to a chocolate shop for desert. We all got s tiny cup of really thick, rich, delicious, hot chocolate. At first I was disappointed that I got such a small cup, this stuff was amazing! By the end of it though, I don't think I could have handled anymore, that small portion was just what I needed. It was so heavenly, I would really like to figure out how to make some on my own. I heard that there is a place nearby with decadent hot chocolate similar to what I had in Boston. I haven't had a chance to go yet, but I am really looking forward to trying some soon. After desert Aaron gave us a small tour of the Harvard campus, it was dark so we couldn't see much of the outer beauty, but from what I could see it was very lovely. That was the end of Day 1. from there we went home to get rested for day 2.

Day 2 we were determined to find good vegan breakfast food and oh did Boston Deliver! We found a great restaurant called veg galaxy. We ordered a stuffed french Toast, an omelet, a couple different sides. we went to town! Everything was amazing. We loved it so much that we also got a couple muffins and a slice of cake to-go too. Ryan and I would have loved a chance to eat there again, but unfortunately we only had 2 days in Boston and so many other places to visit.

After Breakfast we went to the sight for the battle of Bunker Hill. We walked to the top of the monument which was about 250 steps (it could have been more). Getting to the top was exhausting, but the view was so worth it! Next we stopped at the USS Constitution. We had a really neat tour of the ship. Next it was time to eat again. As we walked through the city we ran into a couple different mobs of Justin Beiber fans apparently he was having a concert that night.
After a quick lunch we walked toward Newberry Street. On the way we made time to stop and see the Cheers sign and the duckling statues. I was really hoping to buy the book "Make Way for Ducklings" for my kids as a souvenir, but I couldn't find one anywhere! We did a little window shopping on Newberry St. and decided to get myself a new hat and a shirt. next we had sushi for dinner and then it was time to go back to the hotel and rest. we were too tired to take the metro so we clenched our teeth and paid a taxi to get us back.

We were so exhausted by the end of the trip that we crashed when we got back to our room. We got up really early on Sunday the 11th and road the train back to DC.

My dad and the boys picked us up. when we got back I made dinner and after the boys went to bed I took my parents around to see a few memorials. It was dark out and all the memorials were lit up. I love seeing the memorials at night all lit up!

The next day we spent a few hours at the Smithsonian before I had to take my parents to catch their flight home. It was a quick visit but it was wonderful!
