Micah: Mommy the upstairs books are a "great supplement for parent child reading time!"

Tonight we we're sitting on the front porch. Micah and Sam we're playing with their fire truck that uncle Jordan gave them. The boys were very delighted to see a large fire truck drive by. The truck stopped and flashed it's lights and honked the horn, and the fire fighters waved to the boys. It was a great show, micah's only complaint was that "the truck didn't say meow, meow"

I was trying to get Micah to put his pants back on after he finished using the bathroom. I reminded him repeatedly, and finally I told him he would have to go to his room if he didn't listen. He was so angry with me he shouted "You make me the laughing stock of the neighborhood!" (He got this line from an Aurthur book) All I could do was turn around so he couldn't see me laugh.

I was trying to get Micah to stay at the table and eat dinner, but he was pretending to be a puppy. He kept directing me and Ryan on what to say. Teasingly I said, "I didn't know puppies were so bossy. Micah breaking charachter replies, That's for sure!"

I was holding Sam in the baby carrier, he was sleeping. Micah asks, "is that how the babies sleep in Guatemala?"

After an afternoon of shopping, I sent Micah to time out when we got home for not staying with me. After time out we had a talk about it. After saying everything I had to say Micah replied, "if you don't know where I am, just look by the buttons, that's where you'll find me."

When Micah is being disobedient I give him a warning and then count to 3 if he continues break rules. Today he was playing with the dishwasher rack full of dishes. I asked him to stay out of there and we closed the dishwasher. He went right back to playing in there so I started counting. Then Micah stand up angry at me and says "No more Mommies counting at kids!"

Today we went to the Living Traditions festival. Ryan and I let Micah push his stroller. As he was pushing through the crowds, Ryan told Micah to watch out for people. Then Micah started yelling "Watch out people."

I was exercising and Micah was playing in the same room. I was working on curls and I counted each one out loud, when I got to 9 Micah called out "ten!" Besides 1, 2, go, I didn't even think Micah could count.

Micah has foam letters he plays with in the bath tub. During his bath he actually spelled the word "jet" but not knowing this he pointed to the left side of the word and went across exclaiming "Micah."

Micah and I had just waken up from a nap and we sat down on the couch and began flipping through t.v. channels for him. I stopped on a foot ball game for him. After a few minutes of sitting and watching very intently, Micah leans forward and yells at the t.v., "Come on!"

Micah has discovered the art of tattle telling. Ryan wouldn't let Micah play with something in the kitchen (I don't know what it was) and Micah ran into me with tears and said "Mommy, Dad" as he pointed to the kitchen.

Micah keeps jumping on my back and making monkey sounds. I love the way he clings to me, now I have an idea of how a mother monkey feels.

Micah and I were playing with building blocks today. I was working on an awesome tower. Then Micah comes along and pushes over my structural masterpiece and yells "OOPS!"

Micah was trying to tell me something using sign language. He knows a few ASL sings that he uses pretty often, but this was different today. Micah making signs and gestures I've never even seen before, he was practically making up his own dialect of sign language! It was very hard to keep a straight face. I finally had to ask him to show me what he wanted. A ride in the toy box of course!

Micah loves to get the courtesy balloons from Maceys. I decided to hold on to the balloon for safe keeping, as we were unloading the car the balloon snagged on the door and became free. Micah was horrified! he kept calling "BA, BA, BA." I felt so horrible.

Micah was purposely dumping out milk from his sippy-cup. I looked at him and said "uh oh Micah." He quickly stopped then walked over to the dish rag drawer and grabbed a cloth, went back over to the mess, bent over and mopped it up!

Sam is such a good talker it is amazing. He does run into barriers at times. He is such a champ, he has started to use body language to communicate when I can't understand him. Today he was trying to tell me that his straw wasn't working. When he could see that I wasn't getting it, he started acting like he was sucking from a straw and then he handed me his cup. Such a little thing, but I love it!

Sam really likes to throw his food off the table. On this particular occasion, I was a little more stern that he is use to. The mischievous smile on his face turned to a frown and he got huge puppy dog eyes. I was so worried that I made him sad, I really didn't want to see him cry. I quickly assured him that I wasn't mad at him but that his mess was not okay. I gave him a hug and a kiss. He just sat there with that sad look. I waled away for a moment and as I was coming back I noticed that he looked much happier. When he noticed me however, he went back to that sad look. I asked him if he was sad, he was trying very hard to look sad but not hard enough because he was pulling a half smile/half frown. When I saw this I realized he was just yanking my chain.

Sam has started saying potty and running into the bathroom. So I remove his diaper and sit him on the potty. He likes to just sit their and explore his body (too much info?) When I can see he is not actually using the potty I try to tell him the potty is for going pee pee and poo poo. He grunts a little and hops down with a satisfied look. But every time I try to get his diaper back on he runs back to the bathroom and tells me he needs to use the potty. He really hates to wear diapers!!!

Sam kept crying for me at bed time. I went in to comfort him and I held him for a few minutes until he seemed relaxed. I went to lay him back down and he started pouting. I told him to try closing his eyes and singing a song. A sang twinkle twinkle... to him and then left. I stood outside the door for a moment and heard Sam singing, "up, up, up, up, high" (that's how he sings "twinkle twinkle")

Dwindle

Dwindle: A card game that rocks!

This card game is very dear to my heart, it was the first game I played with Ryan's family. I would explain it to you all so that you can enjoy it, but I am horrible at that sort of thing. The purpose of this post is to announce that I played a nearly perfect game on Friday night. I got all but one of my bids. The reason I am so happy about this is I never, ever, ever win games. I guess it must be because I am not very competitive, but then again here I am bragging about a "nearly perfect" game. Perhaps my competitiveness has been suppressed. I really enjoy playing all types games so if anyone is up for a game night let me know!

Happy Anniversary Ryan!

Ryan and I were married three years ago in the Jordan river Temple. We have had all of the forces of nature try to keep us apart but we are still going strong.

First year of marriage: Jordan El snagged Ryan's wedding band right from his had, it currently lies at the bottom of that darn dam. Now he has two more just in case.

Second year of Marriage: The Potomac River tried to take me whole, I almost slipped off a snowy hill and landed in the cold river. Ryan saved me (not as serious as it sounds).

Third Year of Marriage: Could Micah be considered a force of nature? I would say so! Well that little guy demands a lot of attention, with good reason too. Micah likes to wake up at night just as Ryan and I are getting ready to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie. And he is a pro at interrupting mine and Ryan's daily catch up at the dinner table, but he has filled our home with so much love and definitely brought me and Ryan closer together.

Pinewood Derby

Our ward does a Pinewood Derby for everyone to participate in, it is quite the occasion. I have never been to a pinewood derby so I was pretty excited. Ryan did all the work and Micah, Haley (my neice), and I were there to cheer him on. Ryan's car did so well that he got second place. It was a tight race and a lot of us were certain he would take home the gold. We were proud that he did so well but we can't dwell too much on that race we are already getting ready for next year's race.

Halloween

I have been dying to share my Halloween pictures, our costumes are nothing special but I worked really hard on them. I am not quite proficient at sewing but I figure I can't become a pro if I don't practice. My mother suggested trying to follow a pattern; she is definitely right. I won't try to make up my own designs until I have become more proficient. But it was a great learning experience
So here we are Barny, Betty, and Bam Bam Rubble.

I also made me and Micah a Bumble Bee and a Daisy earlier that day, I had no reason for it except that I haven't grown out of the dress up stage from my childhood. Don't judge my costumes to harshly, even though they aren't fabulous, I had so much fun with them. If only I could put that same motivation and enthusiasm towards my homework or housework. I figure it was a healthy Hobby while it lasted. And I can't wait for the next project to strike my interest.

Zucchini Bread

So a few weeks ago I set out to make Zucchini bread for the women that I visit teach. I had all of the loaves neatly arranged on the table. Well Micah was ready for a snack at so I placed him in his high chair and went to grab him something to eat. Micah is such a big boy that he didn't need any help getting a snack. My sneaky little guy had pulled one of the loaves over to him and when I turned around he had a mouth full of zucchini bread and another handful on its way to his mouth. It was so sweet that I couldn't take it away from him.

11 day's 'till Halloween!

I love Halloween, I love all of the different parties that go on, I love carving pumpkins, I love the candy and most of all I love to dress up! my favorite thing to do is to dress up in pairs. Last year I was pregnant and so Ryan and I dressed up as a basketball player and a basketball hoop, Micah was the Basket ball.

I have been trying to get Ryan to get into the Halloween spirit but it just isn't his thing I guess...or is it? For his work party last year, I stayed up really late making him the coolest Wind Blown Man costume, I think it was then when he started to come around. Just last night Ryan asked me if I was done making his Halloween costume, this was one of the proudest moments in our marriage for me.

So this year I am making the whole family dress up as the Rubble family from the Flintstones. I am Betty, Ryan is Barny, and Micah is Bam Bam. I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to try my hand at sewing again. I tried to make aprons on mothers day for my mom and mother-in-law and they turned out aweful, I can't beleive I gave those away. Sorry mothers. Anyway, so I made our costumes, I am still working on Ryan's.

Micah and I went to the Little Haunts Activity at This is the Place Heritage Park last Friday. We spent the day with my cousin Brooke, her husband Anthony, and there kids. It was really fun getting all dressed up, even if I was the only adult in a Halloween costume. So Micah and I got distracted somehow and didn't get all of the treats from the different stops around the park, all we ended up with was an eraser and a spider ring. I guess I'll be giving those out for Halloween because Micah is to little for any type of Halloween treat.

Micah is such a good sport, he kept his costume on almost all day and it didn't bother him a bit, luckily it was a really warm day because he won't be wearing this little number out of the house again. The only problem we encountered was that he wanted to eat the bone on his costume, the only problem is that it's a dog bone and I don't know what its made out of. Micah's hat was a really pathetic attempt but I think it is a good make shift. I coudn't figure out how to make a hat so I just sewed fabric to one of his other hats. My favorite touch is the club. I found a bowling piun at the D.I. and I rubberband a paper bag around it.

Happy Belated Birthday Ryan

Ryan celebrated his Birthday way back on October 3rd. We spent the whole day together, Ryan Micah and I packed up our things and headed to Logan for the USU/BYU game. We also found a pretty canyon and took some family photos. We had a lot of fun, but Ryan and I both agreed that we never want to have a busy day on our Birthdays ever again. Despite the fact that we had a great time, it was a big hassle.
While we were in Logan we spent sometime with Ryan's Sister Katie, She is a student at USU right now. Together we found a cute little place to eat called Textbook Cafe, we all had a delicious turkey avocado sandwich, mm I am drooling just thinking about it. We were cutting it close to get to the game so we rushed to the stadium to find a place to park. We all know how frustrating it can be to park at a football game, or any event for that matter. Well Ryan , being a suborn Birthday boy was certain he could fit our car into a small space in between a motorcycle and a sedan. This spot was so tight that only a parallel parking master could have parked here. Well did I forget to mention that Ryan is a parallel parking master? With mine and Katie's help we were able to park the car without touching the vehicles on either side of us. Well hours later we decided to leave the game a couple minutes early to beat the rush. When we were walking back to the car we just happened to be walk up to our car at the same time as the owner of the motorcycle behind us. We were embarrassed to walk to our car with him right there so we just kept walking, as if we were parked down the road a little more. I could tell this this guy was frustrated, and with good reason. Well when we could tell that the coast was clear we went back to the car and found this this man in his anger ruined our license plate. I don't blame him for being upset but that was just low, especially because we did not touch his precious motorcycle. Oh well, life goes on.

I have one more special gift I would like to give Ryan for his Birthday. One of my hidden talents is changing the lyrics to familiar songs (a lot like Michael Scott, The Office) I would like to dedicate this number to my Man. You should know that I am doing this freestyle, no preparations here, the subject is definitely Ryan however....
